A few of my top organizing tips
Over time, I’ve accumulated many tools in my figurative (and literal) organizer tool belt that I come back to over and over again. As a TIJ insider (not really a thing, but I’m rolling with it), you get the inside scoop on my not-so-secret secrets. I believe that implementing one or more of these in your home can be a quick fix with major impact, and something anyone can do…
Like with like
If there are multiple spots where you look for items of the same category that would be better housed together, for example some might be: light bulbs, Sharpies, tote bags, etc. Storing like-with-like is a small change that would make a big difference. Collect a full category of items, pick one spot (or a select few), and stick to it. 🎯
Make it easy on the eyes
One of Marie Kondo’s philosophies that I’ve grown to love is to display items in an aesthetically pleasing way. For example, store books and hanging clothes on an upward slope, arrange items by similar size or color, or an easy one is to straighten any crooked pictures on the wall. Arranging things this way isn’t for everyone, especially for families with kids, which can make maintaining this virtually impossible. Although I do love doing this for kids books (as you can see), but never expect it to stay that way. 🙃
See everything at once
For all of my clients, especially those with ADHD, it’s important to store items so that everything can be seen all at once. This may sound impossible, and in some limited space scenarios it is, but there are plenty of techniques and storage products that make this easy to do. When you can see everything all at once, not only does it make finding things less stressful, but it drastically cuts down the amount of time you need to spend looking for something. Win win. 🤘
