Gifting to your future Self

It’s the season of giving, and a good time to remember that gifts don’t always have to be tangible things. And no, I’m not talking about experiences – although those are often the best kind!

I’m talking about gifts to our future selves. ✨

Imagine an act of service that makes yours or a loved one’s life easier. In the world of home organizing, I get to witness how my clients do this for themselves regularly. A few examples of what I mean:

  • 🚘 Clearing out and organizing the garage so their future self can park the car inside during the winter months.

  • 📦 Editing excess clutter in the basement months in advance, so when it comes time to move, their future self has less unnecessary stress.

  • 🎁 Collecting and storing all gift-wrapping materials in one drawer or storage tote so when it’s time to wrap gifts, their future self has only one place to look.

  • 🖼 Reducing decades of accumulated photos and sentimental objects to take the burden off family members who will inherit them in the future.

These are just a few example of things to consider for this season and beyond. Acts like these are some of the most thoughtful ways to show love to yourself and/or others. And in most cases, they don’t cost a thing!
